Cold Emailing Is not Dead, Your Strategy Might Just Suck

Cold Emailing Is not Dead, Your Strategy Might Just Suck

Let’s be real: no one wakes up excited to read a cold email.

But you can write ones that get opened, read and replied to. Even by busy founders, marketing leads, or decision makers buried in outreach.

Here’s the truth: Cold emailing is not about hacks. It’s about relevance, timing and respect for the person on the other end.

5 Simple (Yet Overlooked) Cold Email Tips That Actually Work

1. Stop writing like a marketer. Most cold emails sound like press releases.

"Hi John, I hope this finds you well. I'm reaching out to see if you are interested in streamlining your workflow by 43.7%."

No. Just no.

Instead, write like you would DM a peer:

"Hey John, noticed you are hiring SDRs. Means you are scaling. Want me to send over a list of 250 qualified SaaS companies using HubSpot?"

Short. Specific. Conversational.

2. Lead with a "you," not a "we." Too many emails start with:

"We are a fast growing platform that helps businesses..."

That’s you focused. Start with their context:

"Saw you are running ads but don’t retarget on YouTube."

Get inside their world before inviting them into yours.

3. Add a soft offer. Cold email shouldn’t be a marriage proposal. It’s a first handshake.

Instead of pushing a sales call, offer something easy to say yes to:

"Happy to send a teardown of 3 competitors running FB ads in your niche. No pitch. Just insights. Want it?"

It disarms. It provides value. It builds trust.

4. Use intent signals. Blind outreach is a gamble. But when you use signals, it’s more like showing up with a map.

Examples:

  • Just raised funding

  • Hiring SDRs

  • Using a tool you integrate with (Stripe, Shopify, etc.)

  • 4+ stars on Google Maps with 100+ reviews

Mention the signal. Make your email feel timely, not random.

5. Ditch the fancy signature. A logo, social links, Calendly, LinkedIn, booking form, and quote from Steve Jobs?

It screams automation.

Instead, end with a simple text sign-off:

-Moiz
Scrapeamax

Keep it human. Keep it simple.

Quick example (that gets replies):

Subject: quick idea for your outbound

Hey Sarah, saw you just launched on Product Hunt. Huge congrats.

Bet your inbox is nuts right now, so I will keep it quick:

I scraped 317 companies using Stripe + Calendly + Intercom. All verified founders.

Want me to send you the list?

No CTA. No pitch. Just a relevant offer timed to her context.

The Takeaway

Cold emailing still works. But only if it sounds like a person, not a robot.

Relevance > Personalization. Timing > Templates. Clarity > Cleverness.

If you remember there’s a human on the other side, you will be surprised how many reply.

Now go send a good one.
